in 1973, Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side of the Moon" is considered one of the most iconic and influential albums of all time. To commemorate its 50th anniversary, a newly remastered edition is being released. "The Dark Side of the Moon" was released in March 1973. This grand concept album, themed on the tensions and oppressions of modern society and the madness lurking within the human heart, was the band's first number one album on the US charts (peaking at number two on the UK charts and number two in Japan). The single "Money" was also a huge hit, reaching number 13 on the US charts. It holds the Guinness World Record for 741 consecutive weeks (15 years) on the US charts, has sold over 50 million copies worldwide, and is the third best-selling album of all time. As one of the most important works in music history, it continues to attract and captivate new audiences around the world.
The iconic jacket artwork, designed with a prism of light as its motif, was created by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis and illustrated by graphic designer George Hardy. The mastering was done by James Guthrie, who has long overseen Pink Floyd's sound, with a brand new 2023 remastering. In addition to CD and LP, the import version will also be released as a standalone Blu-ray. The Blu-ray will include Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround mixes, as well as a remastered stereo version. All of these were previously included in the deluxe limited edition "The Dark Side of the Moon" 50th anniversary box set released in March 2023, but this will be their first standalone release.
