The biggest dark horse of Fuji Rock 2026 and a sure bet for a major breakthrough!
The enigmatic duo Angine de Poitrine, who are currently creating a buzz with their bizarre and striking looks and astonishing math-rock sound, are finally releasing their debut album 'Vol. I' on CD/LP!
Their live footage from KEXP, released in February 2026, became a viral hit, especially on social media! With their bizarre and striking visuals and intricate sound, Angine de Poitrine, the masked Canadian rock duo, can truly be called the "eye of the storm" of 2026.
'Vol. I' exudes humor that inherits the spirit of great rock stars and an inexhaustible array of musical charms. With their powerful, highly addictive, and complex rhythmic drum grooves and intricately layered microtone guitars, the duo unfolds intricate and thrilling instrumental music, creating a hypnotic whirlwind of sound and sight. Their tours sold out instantly, generating a huge buzz worldwide. Praised
by artists such as Dave Grohl, they have garnered significant attention from early adopters and indie music fans in Japan, and have now been confirmed to perform at Fuji Rock 2026! Their sound appeals to a wide range of audiences, from instrumental psychedelic acts like Khruangbin, Glass Beams, and Altun Gyun, who have broken through in Japan after their Fuji Rock appearance, to fans of 2000s Brooklyn NY bands like Lightning Bolt and Battles, and post-hardcore punk/math rock! A must-listen for Fuji Rock preparation!
or most avid users of the Internet, Angine de Poitrine seemed to beam down to Earth from their home planet sometime in February of 2026, when their live session for KEXP ended up going viral. In reality, the masked duo formed in Saguenay, Quebec, Canada in 2019 after having played together in various bands since they were teenagers, and this particular project began to take off after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted and they could resume live performances. They independently released their debut album in 2024, and began attracting attention through regular appearances at Quebec festivals. Listening to their first effort after their breakthrough, its clear that the duo already knew exactly what they were going for right from the start. The albums six songs are filled with springy tempos, microtonal guitar riffs recalling Anatolian rock from Turkey, and the occasional moment of aggression that could be likened to brutal prog bands like the Flying Luttenbachers. By and large, though, Angine de Poitrines music seems fun and freewheeling rather than punishing or intense. There's such a sense of joy to their angular riffs and bouncy rhythms, and of course the costumes make it obvious that they're having a great time creating their own weird fantasy world. The duo would only continue to hone their skills following the release of their debut, making their 2026 breakthrough extremely well-timed and appropriate. The songs on Vol. 1 aren't quite as memorable as those on Vol. 2, but it's still a very solid and highly enjoyable first effort.
