Ollie Nightingale, a singer based in Memphis, released "Sweet Surrender" in 1973, a masterpiece that represents Southern soul of that era. This is a reissue of the 7-inch single released in 1971 prior to the album's release. The
A-side, "I Don't Know Why I Love You," which was also covered by Lynn White in 1993, is simply superb. The pleasantly refined sound and deep vocals delivered in a high-pitched voice are irresistible. It is now a highly acclaimed crossover soul track. The B-side, "I'll Take Care Of You," is a funky cover of a Bobby Bland performance. The original is hard to find, so don't miss this opportunity.
